Escalating the most spectacular mountain range in Southeast Asia — this bike journey from Hanoi to Luang Prabang presents stunning views and rare cultural encounters. Challenging inclines and scintillating descents make our trail, which winds through Sapa’s grooved hillsides, up Vietnam’s highest mountain pass and through enchanting tribe villages. Cycle into the picturesque Na River gorge, through the surrounding hills and valleys to Dien Bien Phu, the historic site of the Viet Minh’s decisive victory over the French. Bike into Laos to witness agrarian local life and untamed topography as we overnight at riverside guest houses.  We’ll finish our bicycle trip in atmospheric Luang Prabang.

Day 1: Hanoi Greetings with Dinner (-/-/D)

In the afternoon, at the appointed time, our tour guide will meet up with you at the hotel’s lobby with a quick greetings. Then he will take you to out for dinner at the enchanting local restaurant.

Day 2: Hanoi City Tour - Train To Lao Cai (B/L/D)

8:30 AM: Our Tour Guide & Driver will pick you up at hotel to take part in Hanoi City Tour, firstly visit Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh Stilt House, the botanical garden and the Presidential Palace while learning about his life and revolutionary activities. This used to be the residence of the Governor of Indochina. After 1954 it was named the Presidential Palace and became the place where Ho Chi Minh lived and worked until he passed away in1969. On the way out, visit One Pillar Pagoda. The pagoda was constructed in 1049 by King Ly Thai Tong according to his dream of Bodhisattva seating on a lotus flower and led him to the pagoda. In 1954, the pagoda was destroyed by the French before their withdrawer. After taking over the city on October 10th 1954, Vietnam Ministry of Culture restored the pagoda. The pagoda of today remains since this restoration.

Around 11:00 AM, arrive at the Temple of Literature. This is the combination of the Confucius Temple worshiping Confucius which was built in 1070 and the first Royal National university in Vietnam built 6 years later in 1076. Considered as an escape from the bustling city, this temple and its beautiful garden provide an opportunity to learn more about education in Vietnam since 1000 years ago until recent history.

12:00 PM, have lunch in local restaurant with local Vietnamese traditional Cuisines.

1:00 PM continue to visit the interesting Ethnology Museum. Located west of the city center, this museum offer informative and well-documented display on the country's 54 ethnic groups, include elaborate and colorful hill-tribe costumes, weaving designs, musical instruments, fishing implements, work tools and other functional objects. The display continues on to the garden outside with fascinating examples of minority housing from the King's to the ones of the ethnic groups in Central Highlands.

3:30 PM, visit Hoan Kiem Lake (Restored Sword Lake) and Ngoc Son Temple. Situated in the heart of Hanoi, the lake got its name according to a legend story. In the 15th century during the Ming Chinese invasion, General Le Loi was presented with a holy sword. With the help of this sword he expelled the Chinese from Thang Long, present-day of Hanoi and proclaimed himself as King Le Thai To. One day, when the king was sailing on the lake, suddenly a golden turtle emerged from the water and claimed back the sword which has been believed given to him by God. Since then, the lake has been known as Ho Hoan Kiem or the lake of the Restored Sword. On as island at the northern part of the lake stands Ngoc Son or Jade Mountain temple, one of the most beautiful and religious site in the capital. The temple was established by a mandarin named Nguyen Van Sieu and is dedicated to the spirits of the soil, medicine, literature, and also to Tran Hung Dao, the general who defeated the Mongols in the 13th century. 

4:00 PM take the 1hour-cyclo tour around the Old quarter through its streets which are named after the guilds that used to represent such as Hang Bac (Silver Street), Hang Gai (Silk Street), Hang Tre (Bamboo Street) etc...; After that, enjoy dinner at local restaurant, then we will transfer you to the train station for your departure to Lao Cai with the King Express. Overnight on-board.

Day 3: Lao Cai - Sapa - Test Ride (B/L/-)

Upon arrival in Lao Cai, we transfer you to the hill station town of Sapa and check into our hotel. Enjoy the breakfast. We then test out the bikes by riding on roads and trails used by the locals and ethnic tribes. Lunch en-route. Overnight in Sapa.

Day 4: Sapa - Ta Phin (B/L/-)

After breakfast at the hotel, we get in the saddle and ride to the village of Ta Phin before doing a loop on a dirt track that traverses forested hillsides and passes many of Sapa's ethnic villages. Lunch en-route Overnight in Sapa.

Day 5: Sapa - Tram Ton Pass - Tam Duong - Lai Chau (B/L/-)

Get up, refresh and re-energizing your body with good breakfast. After that ride out of Sapa and we climb to Tram Ton Pass - the highest road pass in Vietnam at 2,000 m. We ride past tea plantations and stop for a short visit to tribal villages along the way to Tam Duong before finishing in Lai Chau. Lunch en-route. Overnight in Lai Chau.

Day 6: Lai Chau - Muong Lay (B/L/-)

After breakfast in the hotel, we take on a challenging uphill from Lai Chau before cruising downhill to Nam Na River. The climb continues as we cycle through mountains and hill tribe villages to Muong Lay to spend the night. Lunch en-route. Overnight in Muong Lay.

Day 7: Muong Lay - Dien Bien Phu (B/L/-)

Today we will ride on rough roads and hills towards Dien Bien Phu after the breakfast at the hotel. Encounter many ethnic minorities on the way and be sure to have your camera handy as they will welcome you in colorful traditional clothes. Enjoy beautiful and peaceful senerary. Lunch en-route. Overnight in Dien Bien Phu.

Day 8: Dien Bien Phu - Muong Phang Commune (B/L/-)

After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a leisurely, 50-km loop in the history-rich city of Dien Bien Phu and visit the war museum. After we cycle out of town towards Muong Phang Commune on scenic roads before biking back to the hotel. Lunch en-route. Overnight in Dien Bien Phu.

Day 9: Dien Bien Phu - Laos Border - Muang Khoua (B/L/-)

Breakfast at the hotels then bike on the the trail twists and turns before reaching the Lao border. After a swap of crews we cycle to the crossroads town of Muang Khoua on dirt roads through remote villages mainly comprised of Red or Black Thai ethnic tribes. Lunch en-route. Overnight in Muang Khoua.

Day 10: Boat Cruise On The Nam Ou River - Muang Ngoy (B/L/-)

A rest day to lean back and relax. We boat down the Nam Ou River enjoying serene life of the locals along the banks and stop over at a remote village hardly any tourists ever visit before reaching Muang Ngoy in the afternoon. Lunch en-route. Overnight in Muang Ngoy.

Day 11: Muang Ngoy - Nong Kiau (B/L/-)

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then our guide & driver will transfer you to the wharf for boarding a boat. After a short boat transfer we ride primarily on dirt roads past ethnic villages in a region that few people ever visit. Lunch en-route. We overnight in Nong Kiau at a guesthouse that overlooks the river.

Day 12: Nong Kiau - Luang Prabang (B/L/D)

Make sure you have a good breakfast for today as we will cycle an undulating road away from Nong Kiau we head west along the Nam Ou River to historic Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage city, where we freshen up and gather for our farewell dinner. Overnight in Luang Prabang. Tour ends. Thank you for using our services.
